ABSTRACT
Research background and purpose:
This Bibliometric Literature Review examines the changing trends in academic research on tourism entrepreneurship over the last twenty-five years. This study examines the role of digital capabilities being studied in reference to entrepreneurial activities in the tourism sector.
Design/methodology/approach:
Relevant data has been extracted from the Scopus database. PRISMA flow diagram helps us to identify, screen and choose the most relevant publications from the Scopus database for a rigorous technical methodology. Further, with the help of software tools like VOSviewer, the extracted data were visualised and analysed under Bibliometric Literature Review. Performance Analysis, Science Mapping, and Thematic clustering have been conducted for a comprehensive review of the literature to gain a deeper understanding of the work done so far.
Findings:
The bibliometric study showed 384 relevant publications that were produced by 160 researchers from 84 different countries, demonstrating the wide interest in the topic. Further, with the help of VOSviewer software, the authors could compute synthesised performance analysis, science mapping, and thematic clustering. The key findings emphasise the most important authors, citations, and publications which have contributed a lot to the literature of digital capabilities in tourism entrepreneurship. There are four principal thematic clusters identified through this study.
Value added and limitations:
This study, being one of its kind, identifies key research areas, influential works, and emerging trends while revealing critical knowledge gaps and understudied topics, guiding future research and strategic development of digital capabilities in tourism entrepreneurship. However, since the literature was extracted from the Scopus database, there is a further possibility to access other databases like Web of Science, Dimensions, and Google Scholar.
