ABSTRACT
Research background and purpose:
This qualitative study aims to explore the critical role of integrated leadership styles in advancing the electric vehicle (EV) sector. It seeks to identify key leadership approaches that drive innovation, manage industry growth, and address challenges in the transition toward sustainable mobility.
Design/methodology/approach:
Adopting a grounded theory approach, this study utilizes data collected from experienced leaders, observations, and secondary sources. A semi-structured interview-based design enables an in-depth understanding of leadership strategies in the rapidly evolving EV industry.
Findings:
First, the study identifies the essential leadership competencies required to navigate the high-growth and dynamic nature of the EV sector. Second, it highlights the balance between skilled leadership—focused on technical expertise and innovation—and traditional leadership, which emphasizes authority and governance. Third, the research proposes a theoretical framework for fostering innovation, collaboration, and operational success within sustainable EV businesses.
Value added and limitations:
Despite extensive research on leadership, existing theories do not fully address the complexities of the EV industry’s transition to sustainability. This study contributes a novel perspective by integrating adaptive and balanced leadership strategies, offering a comprehensive framework to guide leaders in overcoming industry-specific challenges and driving long-term success.
